Hollywood actor Demi Moore recently admitted that she covered herself in blood-sucking leeches to keep her skin looking fresh and young. It is the secret of her glowing skin and beauty, she said. Weeks after Demi Moore publicly admitted to her undergoing leech therapy, the Department of Ayush (under the Health Ministry, Government of India) has decided to standardize and market leech therapy. There are many such ancient medicines systems often referred to as alternative medicines, herbal medicines, nature cure, holistic healing, etc., practiced in India and other Asian countries, and now in practice and demand in many other countries.

Leech therapy is an ancient technique in Unani medicine system. According to news reports, a high-level meeting of Unani medicine experts finalized the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) specifying rules that are to be followed by all leech therapists practicing in India.

The meeting attended by experts from National Institute of Unani Medicine (Bangalore), Research Institute of Unani Medicine (Srinagar), Aligarh and Kashmir University’s department of zoology, also finalized training modules to popularize leech therapy in four national Unani colleges at Bangalore, Aligarh, Delhi and Hyderabad. The Director of Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine, Mohammed Khalid Siddiqui, who chaired the meeting, said leech therapy had proved to be a highly effective technique against arthritis, sinusitis, migraine, hypertension and frostbite.

Experts say over 100 bioactive substances present in the saliva of the leech helps improve disease conditions through extraction of impure blood from human body (leech bites, hangs on the body and sucks blood). The meeting finalized treatment protocol and teaching models for Unani students interested in specializing in leech therapy. The technique had already gained tremendous acceptance among people in Jammu & Kashmir, coastal Orissa and Andhra Pradesh. Many people from other countries, including celebrities like Demi Moore, also endorse leech therapy. As such, the Council is planning to document the system of leech therapy and provide standard guidelines for all leech therapists. It also had plans to send the SOP to the Union Health Ministry for notifying.

“At present there are no defined procedures. Therefore, there is always the risk of quacks. To bring a regulation we are publishing a compilation for all leech therapists. We have also finished carrying out clinical trials to study the effect of leech therapy on various diseases”, he said.

The application of medicinal leeches, Hirudo medicinalis, for clearing poison was in fashion in Egypt around 2500 years ago. In 2004, use of blood sucking leeches was approved by the USFDA as a tool for healing skin grafts. The general indications for leech therapy are Inflammatory Reactions, Heart Diseases, Rheumatic Diseases, Tendovaginitis and Tendinitis, Venous Disease and Varicose Veins, Arthrosis, Arthritis, Muscle Tension, Antidyscratic therapy ( blood purification and regeneration) of toxicoses and mental, illnesses, Thrombosis and embolism, Passive congestions and spastic conditions, Vertebrogenic Pain Syndromes, Transudates and exudates.

Iconic Nigerian author Chinua Achebe has forced super rap star 50 Cent to change the title of his upcoming Things Fall Apart. Chinua Achebe who wrote the novel with the same title in 1958 recently won a legal battle against 50 Cent over the title of the flick.

Upon learning about the copyright dispute, 50 Cent offered Chinua Achebe a million dollars to use the title but the Chinua Achebe foundation refused. 50 and the producers have now been forced to change the title of the movie.

Things Fall Apart is regarded as the greatest book in African literature and is the most widely ride. According to the author's legal representatives "The novel with the said title was initially produced in 1958 (that is 17 years before rapper 50 Cent was born), [is] listed as the mostly read book in modern African literature, and won’t be sold for even $1 billion".

All Things Fall Apart, written by Brian A. Miller and 50 Cent, is about the story of a college football player whose sports career is cut short by cancer. The film was directed by New Jack City maestro Mario Van Peebles and stars Peebles, Ray Liotta and 50 Cent in the lead role.

Katherine Jenkins is an award-winning Welsh mezzo-soprano. Her first album Premiere made her the fastest-selling mezzo-soprano to date and she later became the first British classical artist to have two number one albums in the same year. She also stands as the first female artist to win two consecutive Classical BRIT Awards.

At the age of 17, she won a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music, University of London. At the Academy, she also studied Italian, German, French and Russian and graduated with honours. She finished the course with a degree, a music teacher's diploma and then made some money as a freelance singing teacher and a model for hair and make-up. After entering a modeling competition, Jenkins was made the Face of Wales in 2000 and then decided to focus more intently on her musical career. When Universal Classics & Jazz heard one of Jenkins' demo tapes, she was called to an interview, and she sang "Una voce poco fa" by Rossini. Universal then offered Jenkins a six-album deal just an hour later. This meant that at the age of just 23, Jenkins had signed the then largest record deal in United Kingdom classical recording history, reportedly worth £1 million. Universal Classics' marketing director has since said, "She is an utter professional, a wonderful singer and has a team utterly committed to her."

Jenkins first came to public attention when she sang at Westminster Cathedral honouring Pope John Paul II's silver jubilee in October 2003 and then supporting singer Aled Jones on his tour. At the Rugby World Cup in 2003, she made her Sydney Opera House debut. In August 2004, she made her first US appearance supporting crossover soprano Hayley Westenra at Joe's Pub in New York City.

Katherine took on a number of operatic roles at the RAM, in addition to studying Italian, German, French, and Russian. After graduating with honors, Katherine decided to press on with post-graduate studies in opera, but she needed to raise the money, so she worked as a singing teacher in Hertfordshire. Later, Katherine's mother sent in some pictures of her to a competition to find The Face of Wales, and Katherine ended up winning, which allowed her to supplement her income as a model, in addition to teaching.

In April 2004, Katherine's debut CD, Premiere, was released. The album went straight to No. 1 on the classical charts, where it stayed for eight weeks. Its phenomenal success led Universal to encourage Katherine to release a follow up, Second Nature, which came out in October 2004 and also hit No. 1. The two albums made Katherine the UK's top-selling classical artist of 2004, and Second Nature went on to win Album of the Year at the 2005 Classical BRIT Awards.

On 22 January 2005 Jenkins sang at Cardiff at the Tsunami Relief Concert in order to raise money for the victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. In April and May 2005, Jenkins supported Irish tenor Ronan Tynan on his first US tour as a solo artist. At the Berlin stage of Live 8 in 2005, Jenkins sang the hymn "Amazing Grace". Her interpretation was partly a vocal solo; for the rest she was accompanied by a single softly played piano.

In May 2005, Jenkins sang at Trafalgar Square to 15,000-strong audience to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of VE Day, and later helped to launch the Royal British Legion's poppy appeal at Covent Garden whilst wearing a dress made of 2,500 poppies.

Classical music isn't really known as the sexiest musical genre, but with Katherine Jenkins' Play..boy-worthy charms giving it new life, there'll be more cleavage than concertos in the concert hall before you know it. If we had had this lovely former music teacher giving us piano lessons, it's guaranteed that we'd have spent a lot more time working on our fingering.

As for what kind of girlfriend Katherine might be, like any woman, she has her pluses and minuses. When she says "I've never had a beer in my life," our hearts sink; then again, she loves driving and is excited about her new Audi A6, which gives us new hope. But it's moot anyway, as long as she stays with her live-in boyfriend, singer-songwriter Steve Hart.

For a singer in her mid-20s, Katherine Jenkins has done better for herself than most people would ever imagine. After studying opera in school, she landed the biggest classical record deal ever in the UK, and has released three No. 1 albums: Premiere (2004), Second Nature (2004) and Living A Dream (2005). Second Nature won her a Classical BRIT Award for Album of the Year, and she beat out operatic greats like Kiri Te Kanawa, Lesley Garrett and Angela Gheorghiu to be the top-selling classical musician in the UK. To top it all off, she's even had lunch with the Queen.

Katherine is well known in her native Wales and in the rest of Britain as a whole. She is also growing an international following, performing from Berlin to Tokyo. Though not as big in America, Katherine's fame is building momentum with appearances on TV shows like The View and Access Hollywood, and the 2005 US release of her album Second Nature under the title La Diva.

Jenkins has released five classical number one studio albums to date selling 4,000,000 copies. Her sixth album, Sacred Arias, was released on 20 October 2008. Her albums feature arias, popular songs, hymns and classical crossover music and she has performed in a large number of concerts around the United Kingdom and other countries, including the United States and Australia.

The first season of The Hills premiered on MTV in May 31, 2006. The series documents Conrad's move to Los Angeles, her work at Teen Vogue, and her personal life and the lives of her friends, including then-roommate Heidi Montag.

MTV renewed The Hills for a second season,which filmed from late summer 2006 through February 2007. The premiere episode of season 2 aired January 15, 2007. During that time, the friendship between Conrad and Montag deteriorated as Montag increasingly spent her time with her new boyfriend, Spencer Pratt. By February 2007, Audrina Patridge replaced Montag as Conrad's roommate after Montag moved into a separate apartment with Pratt.

Filming the third season of The Hills began in mid-summer 2007 and lasted through March 2008. The premiere episode of season 3 aired August 13, 2007. During that time, Conrad was able to revive her position at Teen Vogue and was offered a second trip to Paris alongside with Whitney Port. By March 2008, Port had already left Teen Vogue for fashion PR firm People's Revolution, and after asking Conrad to assist at an event, Kelly Cutrone noticed her work ethic and invited her to work for her company.

Filming for the fourth season of The Hills began in mid-summer 2008 and lasted through November 2008. The premiere episode of Season 4 aired August 18, 2008. Filming for Season 5 began in January 2009, and the premiere episode aired April 6, 2009. Conrad has stated that Season 5 will be her last, even with her departure, the program is continuing without her.

Fashion career

Conrad landed an internship at Teen Vogue while filming season one of The Hills.[3] Conrad and her reality show appearances have been credited with improving sales of Teen Vogue. It was reported in March 2007 that since the second season of The Hills began airing in mid-January, newsstand sales for the magazine increased by double digits over 2006 sales.According to Lisa Love, the West Coast editor of Vogue who evaluated Conrad for the internship position, Conrad had to interview successfully in order to get the job, "regardless of what the cameras wanted".

Conrad developed a new fashion line, the Lauren Conrad Collection, that debuted at the Mercedes Benz LA Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in March 2008.In March 2009, Conrad announced that she would be taking a hiatus from the fashion line; the spring and summer 2009 lines have been canceled.She earns an estimated $1.5 million annually for her television appearances, fashion line, and product endorsements. Witherspoon, 34, has not commented on the report by Us Weekly magazine, which said she will wear a Monique Lhuillier design and marry Toth, a 40-year-old talent agent, in a field near her ranch in Ojai, California.

The two have been dating for about a year. This will mark the second marriage for the actress, who was married to actor Ryan Phillippe, 36, between 1999 and 2008. The two are parents to daughter Ava, 11 and son Deacon, 7.

Witherspoon and Toth were first linked together in January, not long after she and actor Jake Gyllenhaal confirmed they had broken up after dating for about three years.

Witherspoon and Toth fended off engagement rumors in October.

Bloggers know what I'm taking about, as many of you are deliberately flogging Pippa stories for the page views. Case in point, I wrote an article on William and Kate and it received a healthy, but moderate amount of page views (Are Prince William And Kate Middleton The Right Match).

Then, I wrote an article about Pippa and it became one of the most read items on the website, with many other sites and social networking pages linking to it (Pippa Middleton Is Upstaging Her Sister Kate). I just found out yesterday in perusing the site's numbers.

Go figure! I'm talking Megan Fox and Justin Bieber numbers. Whenever I write about those two, the page views go through the roof. However, I do not write about people and topics for the page views. I write about what I think will be beneficial to or interest you the reader. Then, there are those articles where I just have PMS, but that's another story.

But back to Pippa - did the royal family see this one coming. Pippa has overshadowed them. However, there's also another issue that is not helping matters. The royal family made William and Kate, a duke and duchess and said titles sometimes do not connect with the populace.

The titles are not fitting for a couple in their twenties or thirties. It's the equivalent of prematurely aging them. The titles of prince and princess are always more catchy where the public is concerned, regardless of rank.
